High-Profile Couple Appears in Court Amid Expanding Criminal Case
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, once widely known as part of Britain’s first openly gay fathers to twins, and his partner Scott Hutchinson have appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court facing a significant escalation in criminal allegations, including 18 additional charges related to serious sexual offences.
The couple, aged 57 and 32 respectively, were arrested following a police raid on their Essex mansion last month. They now face multiple accusations including rape, sexual assault, and offences connected to alleged sexual exploitation and trafficking.

Essex Police confirmed ahead of the latest court hearing that the investigation had expanded, resulting in 18 further charges being brought against the defendants.
Drewitt-Barlow now faces 15 additional counts, including allegations of sexual activity with a child, paying for sexual services of a child, rape, sexual assault, causing or inciting sexual activity, and facilitating sexual exploitation.
Hutchinson faces three additional charges, including two counts of rape and one count of causing or inciting sexual activity.
The alleged offences are said to involve four male complainants and are reported to have taken place across Essex and Manchester between April 2013 and January this year.
Allegations of Grooming and Exploitation
During earlier court proceedings, prosecutors outlined allegations that the defendants recruited young men before allegedly grooming them and subjecting them to sexual exploitation and assault.
Prosecutor Serena Berry described the accused as individuals who lived “multi-million-pound lifestyles” and had appeared in documentaries and reality television programmes. She told the court that the pair owned businesses in Essex and abroad, including Maldon and Tiptree Football Club.
Berry alleged that the defendants targeted vulnerable young males, establishing relationships with them before inviting them to private residences and other locations where the alleged offences took place.
According to the prosecution, the case involves a pattern of behaviour over several years, although all allegations remain unproven and subject to judicial process.

Drewitt-Barlow faces accusations including three counts of sexual assault on a male, four counts of rape of a man aged 16 or over, and two counts of arranging or facilitating travel of a person with a view to exploitation.
Hutchinson faces one count of sexual assault on a male, one count of rape of a man aged 16 or over, and two counts of arranging or facilitating travel for exploitation purposes.
Both defendants have strongly denied all allegations through their legal representatives.
Defence barrister Oliver Snodin stated in court that the accusations are “strenuously denied,” emphasizing that the case will be contested in full during future hearings.
Arrests Follow Police Raid on Essex Mansion
The investigation escalated following a police raid on the couple’s Essex property last month. Authorities also carried out a subsequent search at the Drewitt-Barlow Stadium, following their arrest.
