PRESTON DAVEY’S MOTHER’S EMOTIONAL STATEMENT AS KILLER RECEIVES WHOLE LIFE SENTENCE – Openheadline24

“He had the most beautiful smile, one that could light up any room.”

Listen to Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fallows read a statement on behalf of Preston Davey’s biological mother Sarah, who can be seen in tears stood outside Preston Crown Court today.

Paedophile Jamie Varley, who adopted baby Preston with his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley, was given a whole life term on Thursday and told he will never be eligible for parole after his conviction for Preston’s murder that “shocked the nation”.

His partner was jailed for 25 years for allowing Varley’s treatment of 13-month-old Preston and taking part in the sexual abuse.

The sentencing marked the end of a harrowing trial that exposed the horrific abuse suffered by an innocent child at the hands of those who were supposed to protect him. As the judge delivered the whole life order, the courtroom was filled with a heavy silence, broken only by the quiet sobs of those who had fought for justice.

A Mother’s Heartbreaking Words

Sarah’s statement, read by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fallows outside the court, captured the profound grief of a mother who lost her son in the most tragic circumstances. The words “He had the most beautiful smile, one that could light up any room” have resonated deeply with the public, serving as a poignant reminder of the joyful child Preston was before his life was cruelly taken.

Sarah’s courage in allowing her statement to be shared has been praised as a powerful act of love and a call for justice. Though she was unable to read it herself due to overwhelming emotion, her words have touched millions and ensured that Preston’s memory remains at the center of this case.

Justice Served, But Scars Remain

The whole life sentence for Jamie Varley reflects the court’s recognition of the depravity of the crimes committed against a defenseless 13-month-old. John McGowan-Fazakerley’s 25-year sentence acknowledges his role in enabling the abuse and participating in it.

While the verdicts and sentences bring a measure of justice, they cannot restore what was lost. Preston’s biological family, adoptive family members who fought for him, and the wider community continue to grieve the loss of a bright, innocent child.

A Community United in Remembrance

The case has sparked important conversations about child protection, adoption safeguards, and the need for vigilance in identifying signs of abuse. Local organizations and child advocacy groups have used the moment to call for stronger systems to protect vulnerable children.

Vigils and remembrance events have been held in Preston, with many focusing on celebrating Preston’s short but meaningful life rather than dwelling solely on the horror of his passing. The beautiful smile mentioned in his mother’s statement has become a symbol of the joy he brought to those around him.

As the legal proceedings conclude, the focus shifts toward healing and prevention. Preston Davey’s story, though tragic, has the potential to drive meaningful change in how society protects its most vulnerable members.

Our thoughts remain with Sarah and all those who loved Preston. May his memory continue to inspire compassion, vigilance, and a commitment to ensuring no other child suffers as he did.
