“I used to eat a large salad and still feel hungry again within an hour,” Tansy Sloan recalls. “Then I would grab chips or crackers, and by the middle of the afternoon, my energy would crash.” Her experience highlights how simply eating plant-based foods does not always mean the body is getting enough satisfying nutrition.

Tansy was not trying to lose weight, follow a strict diet, or copy a new food trend. Her main goal was simple: she wanted better control over her cravings and more stable energy throughout the day. However, she noticed that many plant-based recipes focused heavily on appearance and presentation rather than creating meals that could keep her full for several hours.
Because her meals were often too light, she found herself reaching for snacks again and again. The constant cycle of eating, feeling hungry, snacking, and then experiencing an afternoon energy drop became frustrating.
“I finally understood that I wasn’t eating enough of the foods my body actually needed,” Tansy says. “I was eating food, but I wasn’t properly fueling myself.”
Tansy Sloan’s Simple Vegan Plan to Reduce Cravings
Instead of completely changing her diet overnight, Tansy decided to make small and practical improvements. She began building each meal around foods that could provide better satisfaction and help her stay full for longer.
Her meals started including more protein-rich foods such as lentils, beans, chickpeas, and tofu. She also added healthy fats from nuts, seeds, nut butters, and tahini. Slow-digesting carbohydrate sources such as oats, quinoa, brown rice, and sweet potatoes became another important part of her daily eating routine.
The idea was not to make meals complicated. Instead, she focused on combining different food groups in a way that provided energy, nutrition, and fullness.
Simple and Filling Vegan Meals
Breakfast changed from a light meal into a warm and satisfying bowl of oats topped with almond butter and banana. The combination provided carbohydrates along with healthy fats and helped her feel more satisfied during the morning.
For lunch, she started preparing hearty bowls made with lentils, roasted vegetables, grains, and tahini. These meals were larger and more balanced than the salads she previously relied on.
Dinner remained simple as well. A typical evening meal could include stir-fried tofu served with brown rice and topped with sesame seeds. These meals were easy to prepare while still providing protein, carbohydrates, fats, and plant-based ingredients in one plate.
“I learned that feeling full is extremely important,” she says. “When your body feels satisfied and properly nourished, the desire to constantly reach for junk food becomes much weaker.”
Understanding the Emotional Side of Cravings
Tansy also began paying attention to the emotional reasons behind some of her food cravings. She realized that hunger was not always the main reason she wanted something salty, crunchy, or sweet.
“Sometimes cravings are not physical hunger,” she explains. “They can come from boredom, comfort, stress, or simply following a habit.”
Rather than forcing herself to ignore every craving, she created a routine that included both nutritious foods and enjoyable meals. This made her eating pattern feel less restrictive and easier to maintain.
Building a More Satisfying Vegan Routine
Over time, Tansy stopped focusing so much on avoiding certain foods and started paying more attention to whether her meals were satisfying enough. Eating balanced meals helped reduce the constant desire to snack between meals.
Her approach was based on simple everyday foods rather than complicated recipes or strict rules. Protein-rich plant foods, healthy fats, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and slow-digesting carbohydrates became the foundation of her meals.
Now, she says cravings no longer control her daily routine because they appear much less often.
“I eat real food, I feel full, and then I move on with my day,” Tansy says. “Eating vegan does not need to be about restriction. It can be simple, satisfying, and something that genuinely works for your lifestyle.”
